I came in for a visit and discovered that my "guilt" note got the guilt prize of the year. Well, I now feel guilty about drawing so much attention to myself, but of course I also love it (and I feel guilty for loving it).

Much love,
Candice

Subject: A Wasted Emotion

That's what my parents have always told me anyway, that guilt is a wasted emotion. But they're awfully good at teaching me to waste emotions then! I feel guilty for not wanting to move back to my home town, for playing when I should be working, for working too hard when I should be socializing, for turning my cat into some sort of psycho-wimp (I'm sure I had something to do with it), for not cleaning my house, and for not getting my thesis finished months ago. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Subject: Hi Sherry!

Guilt? Guilt is my middle name. I feel guilty for not being more than I am, for letting opportunities pass me by, for not having enough energy to do everything, for not being perfect, for spending so much time on the web!

I feel guilty for not being best at everything, because merely being good at some things is not good enough. I feel guilty for being emotional and spacey and focused and eccentric rather than calm and cool and organized.

I feel guilty for having a bit of an edge on my personality even though I do like my personality, but I still feel guilty about relating to The Evil Queen and Cruella DeVille instead of Beauty and Snow White.

I feel guilty about having a daughter who refuses to wear dresses or pink pony tail holders, though I think she's wonderful, and she loves The Evil Queen too.

I feel guilty about producing boys who aren't great at sports, who are thin and wiry and freckled and spectacled. But, they are feminists, hurrah. I feel guilty about aluminum cans and eating meat and using cleaning chemicals and having three children and driving a car -- ecoguilt. But not guilty enough to change my bad habits.

I feel guilty for liking myself even though I'm convinced I've failed completely at being perfect.

And now I feel guilty about writing so much!

Candice

Ah Candice: You get the 1st Year Guilt Prize from SherryArt. You're definitely the most guilty one so far. Love, Sherry

Mary W (not her real name) contends guilt likens to a trip down the aisle of a grocery store with various choices available with the highest root breakdown being Catholicism on the one side and Judaism on the opposing shelves.

Provenance of the next generation of guilt then will come into question considering the majority of children are being raised in households renegade to religion of the grandparents.

Defacto ECO religionism creeps in through the back door at school through teacher deification and general political correctivity.

I fell guilty because I wasted the last 2 months of school secretly following around a guy I have a huge crush on and never told him how I felt. And because I've been on the net all day when our house is a mess and family is comming from Denver in a few hours. I just heard the door bell. I didn't do the dishes, i haven't vacumed, :(

I'm guilty for (I can't believe I'm telling this) taking my Mom to a Mother's Day concert simply because I wanted to see the band, and the only way they'd let me in was if I had my Mom. Oh my..I better remove this from my list of bookmarks before Mom sees it. I feel better now...kind of..man, my mom can make me feel guilty and she's not even around!

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt (with the long sleeves and the collar . . . the one you wove). Guilt is just another way to control the universe with the advantage of operating in retrospect.
